Two Years Later
Hannah eventually became engaged.
When she told her family, Chloe immediately texted:
DO NOT LET MY MOM NEAR THE DRESS.
Hannah laughed for five minutes.
A few months later, she opened the preservation box.
Her mother’s gown was still there.
Perfect.
She tried it on.
Then looked at herself in the mirror.
And realized something unexpected.
It didn’t feel like her.
She didn’t wear it.
Instead, she chose a completely different dress.
Rebecca was shocked.
“After everything?”
Hannah smiled.
“I told you. It was about getting to choose.”
Then Hannah took a small piece of detachable lace from one of her mother’s old accessories—not the gown itself—and incorporated it into her bouquet.
The wedding dress remained preserved.
Not wasted.
Not forgotten.
Just hers.
Exactly as her mother intended.
