But Hannah Wasn’t Finished

She took the dress upstairs.

Then came back holding an envelope.

It was the letter from her mother.

Hannah handed it to her father.

He already knew what it said.

Rebecca didn’t.

David gave it to her.

She read the line:

If you ever want to wear this someday, it is yours.

Rebecca looked up.

Hannah said:

“She gave it to me.”

Rebecca nodded.

“I understand.”

Hannah replied:

“No. I need you to understand that it doesn’t matter whether I get married next year or never.”

Rebecca kept listening.

“It doesn’t stop being mine just because Chloe has a wedding first.”

That was the part Rebecca had never considered.

Chloe Found Another Dress

Three days later, a local boutique found a sample gown in Chloe’s size.

It wasn’t what she originally planned.

She loved it anyway.

Hannah stayed in the wedding party.

For several weeks, she and Rebecca barely spoke.

The relationship between Rebecca and David was even worse.

Not because of the dress alone.

Because Rebecca had lied about David’s permission.

That bothered him more than she expected.

He told her:

“If you knew I’d say no, that was your answer.”
