The Wedding Came

On the morning of Chloe’s wedding, Hannah was helping fasten the back of Chloe’s replacement gown.

Chloe looked at herself in the mirror.

Then at Hannah.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Sure.”

“If you get married someday… are you going to wear your mom’s dress?”

Hannah smiled slightly.

“I don’t know.”

Chloe nodded.

Then laughed.

“After all this?”

Hannah laughed too.

“That’s the point. I get to decide.”

Chloe turned around.

“Fair.”

Rebecca Surprised Hannah at the Reception

During dinner, Rebecca approached her.

She held a small box.

Hannah looked suspicious.

“What is this?”

“Not another wedding dress.”

Hannah almost laughed.

Inside was a professional preservation kit.

Rebecca had paid for the gown to be properly inspected and re-preserved.

Nothing had been cut.

Nothing permanently altered.

Rebecca said:

“I should never have touched it.”

Hannah looked at her.

“No.”

“I know.”

Then Rebecca added:

“And what I said about you not having anyone to marry…”

Hannah looked away.

Rebecca continued:

“That was cruel.”

“Yes.”

“I was angry.”

“That doesn’t make it less cruel.”

“I know.”

It wasn’t a perfect apology.

But it was real.

Hannah accepted it.
