She Found Her Stepsister Wearing Her Late Mother’s Wedding Dress—Then Her Stepmother Said, “She Needs It More”
Hannah knew the dress immediately.
She didn’t need to see the label.
She didn’t need to touch the lace.
She didn’t even need to see the entire gown.
The tiny row of pearl buttons down the back was enough.
She stopped in the doorway.
Her stepsister Chloe stood on a small platform in front of the living-room mirror.
A seamstress knelt beside her, pinning the waist.
And Chloe was wearing Hannah’s late mother’s wedding dress.
Hannah couldn’t move.
Then she said:
“Take it off.”
Everyone turned.
Her stepmother, Rebecca, stood near the couch.
Her face changed instantly.
“Hannah?”
Hannah walked farther into the room.
“Take. It. Off.”
Chloe looked down at the dress.
Then toward her mother.
“Mom?”
Hannah’s voice shook.
“Why is she wearing my mom’s dress?”
Nobody answered fast enough.
That made the answer worse.
