Ryan Found Out the Whole Truth That Night
Sophie called her brother.
This time, she told him everything.
There was a long silence.
Then Ryan said:
“They told me it was family money.”
“They lied.”
“I didn’t know.”
“I believe you.”
Ryan sounded sick.
He and Megan had contributed some of their own savings to the wedding.
But Sophie’s parents had paid for most of the upgrades.
The band.
The larger venue.
The premium catering.
Even the fireworks.
None of those things had been Ryan’s idea.
Their mother had pushed for them.
Ryan said something Sophie hadn’t expected.
“I’m paying you back.”
“You don’t have thirty-two thousand dollars.”
“No. But I’m still paying you back.”
“This isn’t your debt.”
“Maybe not legally.”
He paused.
“But I benefited from it.”
