Megan Reached for the Bag

“Give it to me.”

Carol put her hand on the handle.

“No.”

Megan stared at her.

“What?”

“We are sorting this out first.”

“There is nothing to sort out.”

Megan grabbed the other handle.

Carol held on.

“Megan.”

“Let go.”

“Stop making a scene.”

Megan pulled the bag toward herself.

Carol pulled it back.

Several envelopes shifted inside.

Ryan stepped closer.

“Both of you, stop.”

Megan said:

“Tell your mother to let go.”

Carol answered:

“You don’t speak to my son like that.”

Megan almost shouted:

“He’s standing here opening our cards!”

The Bag Tore

Not completely.

One of the handles ripped loose.

The sudden movement sent several envelopes sliding onto the floor.

One opened when it hit the ground.

A check fell out.

Everyone froze.

It was made out to:

Megan and Josh Parker.

Not Ryan.

Not Carol.

Megan bent down and picked it up.

Then another envelope.

Same thing.

Josh looked toward his mother.

“Enough.”
