Then Emily Interrupted
Emily had remained silent during most of the interview.
Finally she said:
“Dad, tell them.”
Thomas looked at her.
She continued:
“Tell them what you found.”
Thomas lowered his head.
Twenty-two years earlier, several days after David disappeared, Thomas had gone into the company’s warehouse.
Behind a stack of construction materials he found David’s wristwatch.
And a large dark stain on the concrete floor.
Thomas became terrified.
He cleaned part of the area.
Then left town.
He had never told police.
Detectives immediately reopened the original warehouse investigation.
The Old Warehouse Still Existed
The building had changed owners several times.
But portions of the original concrete foundation remained.
Investigators brought forensic teams to the site.
A section of the warehouse was sealed.
Police vehicles filled the industrial lot.
Temporary floodlights were erected.
Crime-scene technicians photographed the floor.
Local reporters gathered outside.
Authorities did not immediately say what they discovered.
Three days later, however, police announced that evidence connected to the old Keller investigation had been located.
They did not disclose further details.
The case was officially reopened.
