Michael Had Worked on the Estate

Police interviewed him the next morning.

He said he had no idea why his car was near Natalie’s home.

Detectives showed him the footage.

Michael changed his story.

He said he had been driving through the area.

“Why?”

“To clear my head.”

“At 11:15 at night?”

“Yes.”

“Did you know Eric was there?”

“No.”

Detectives didn’t believe him.

Then they showed Natalie his photograph.

She stared at it.

“I think that’s the man from the woods.”

Police Obtained a Search Warrant

Michael’s home was searched.

Detectives found copies of Brooks family financial records.

Old estate documents.

And a torn dark jacket.

A small section of one sleeve was missing.

Investigators compared it to the piece of fabric found on the fence.

It appeared consistent.

Michael was brought in for questioning.

But he denied attacking anyone.

He claimed he went to Natalie’s neighborhood because Eric had threatened to expose him.

“Expose you for what?”

Michael refused to answer.
