Chapter 11 – The Second Door
The story became worse when a former volunteer came forward.
Her name was Chiara.
She had left Haven Paws eight months earlier.
She had photographs.
Messages.
And one short video.
The video was not graphic.
That made it more disturbing.
A frightened dog stood in a clean kennel.
A staff member could be heard asking:
“Should I put the blanket back?”
Someone off camera answered:
“Yes. Make it look like intake.”
The camera moved away.
That was all.
No beating.
No visible injury being caused.
Just staging.
Then another former volunteer described animals being kept dirty until photographs were taken.
Another alleged that minor conditions were described online as emergencies.
Another said volunteers were sometimes told not to post recovery photographs until campaigns reached their targets.
The public reaction changed overnight.
People who had donated began posting receipts.
€10.
€30.
€200.
One elderly woman said she had donated part of her pension after being told a cat required surgery “before morning.”
The cat had already been treated.
Another donor wrote:
I didn’t donate because you asked for help. I donated because you told me an animal would suffer without my money. Those are not the same thing.
The rescue’s page disabled comments.
That made people angrier.
