Eric Made It Worse
Rachel looked at her husband.
“Say something.”
Eric sighed.
“Mom shouldn’t have thrown anything away.”
Diane looked offended.
“But Rachel, she probably genuinely thought she was helping.”
Rachel stared at him.
“She dumped food I spent two days making into the trash.”
“I know.”
“And your response is that she meant well?”
“I didn’t say what she did was right.”
“You watched her do it.”
Eric rubbed his forehead.
“I didn’t want to start a fight on Thanksgiving.”
Rachel looked around the kitchen.
“The fight already started.”
Diane jumped in.
“Exactly. And now you’re making this a huge thing.”
Rachel turned toward her.
“I am?”
“Yes.”
“It was food.”
Rachel went silent.
Diane continued.
“You’re acting like I came in here and destroyed something important.”
Rachel replied:
“You did.”
The First Guests Arrived During the Argument
Eric’s sister, Melissa, walked in with her husband and children.
She stopped when she saw everyone’s faces.
“What happened?”
Diane immediately answered:
“Nothing. Rachel’s upset because I brought extra food.”
Rachel couldn’t believe it.
“That’s not what happened.”
Melissa looked between them.
Eric said:
“Mom threw out some of Rachel’s dishes.”
Melissa’s eyes widened.
“You what?”
Diane became defensive.
“They weren’t good.”
Rachel laughed again.
Melissa looked at her mother.
“You can’t throw away somebody else’s Thanksgiving dinner.”
Diane responded:
“Oh, please. She still has plenty of food.”
That was when Melissa asked:
“How would you react if someone threw away your Thanksgiving dinner?”
Diane didn’t answer.
