Rachel stopped.

I should have told you.

I’m sorry.
Instead:
“I knew you wouldn’t understand.”
Rachel replied:
“Then you knew you were hiding it.”
Mark rubbed his forehead.
“That’s not what I meant.”
“That’s exactly what you meant.”
Their anniversary reservation was in forty minutes.
Rachel wanted to cancel.
Mark begged her not to.
There was another complication.
His parents and sister were already meeting them at the restaurant for drinks before leaving the couple alone for dinner.
Rachel eventually agreed to go.
