Ana opened the salon early.
She greeted Nora without asking whether she felt better.
Instead, she showed her the tools and the few temporary pieces she proposed using.
“We’ll do this slowly. Tell me if anything feels wrong.”
Nora sat down.
This time, every change began with a question.
Ana kept the remaining length, worked the shorter section into a soft shape near Nora’s face, and arranged the back so the comb sat securely.
It took longer than the original plan.
When Ana finally turned the chair, Nora held her breath.
The hairstyle was different.
It was also beautiful.
The small pearl caught the morning light.
Nora began crying again, and Ana handed her a tissue without looking alarmed.
“Take your time.”
At the ceremony, Ben saw her coming down the aisle and forgot whatever he had planned to do with his hands.
That made her smile.
When she reached him, he leaned close.
“There you are.”
Those three words undid the last tight knot in her chest.
Not because he approved of the haircut.
Because he saw her.
During the reception, her sister adjusted the comb after a long stretch of dancing. Nora caught sight of herself in a window and stopped.
Yesterday, she had looked into reflective glass searching for everything that had been taken.
Now she saw flushed cheeks, loosened curls, and Ben approaching with two glasses of water.
For several hours, she had forgotten Kelly completely.
It was not forgiveness.
It was simply the return of a day that belonged to her.
